VAT Department updates taxpayers’ registration records [2006-04-27] |
The VAT Department is in the process of updating the Taxpayers’ Registration Information and is sending all taxpayers a Registration Details Update Form to complete and return to the VAT Department. The department is requesting the information to be complete and returned to its offices during the first week of May 2006. Although the VAT Department has requested a very short span of time for business persons to comply with this request the form is rather simple to complete. It is being advised that taxpayers wishing to utilise the services of their consultant to fill in the form should, together with the form produce the following details:
Note: The VAT Information Sheet 001/2006 which is accompanying the Registration Details Update Form needs to be corrected as the partners of a partnership also require to fill in VAT Form 055/1999 and attach it to the Registration Details Update Form which may be downloaded here, rather than having to request this information from the VAT Department. It is to be noted that the correct reference Form is the one supplied above and not that indicated in the information sheet supplied. |

Member States agree on European driving licence [2006-04-08] |
The Council of Ministers reached a political agreement on a European Commission proposal from 2003 regarding a European driving licence. Common European rules will facilitate the free movement of EU drivers, prevent fraud when driving licences are used as identification documents and improve road safety, particularly where motorcycles are concerned. A single model in credit card format will replace the more than 110 different models currently in circulation. The European driving licence will provide all drivers with a clear, modern licence that will be accepted in all Member States. The new driving licence will ensure improved road safety through better definitions of the scope of application of the different driving licence categories. It will make clear exactly who is entitled to drive what. It provides for the introduction of a licence for mopeds and establishes the principle of progressive access to bigger and more powerful motorcycles. The new rules also set minimum standards for driving examiners. [source: Aggornat - Forum Malta in Europe] |

Dual Pricing - Lm & Euro as from the 1st January 2007 [05-04-2006] |
In order to reduce dual pricing costs and amalgamate such changes with the requirements of the introduction of the Euro, planning for these changes should commence immediately, with the adaptability examination of all systems software, hardware and documentation for the eventual migration. Action on the adoption of the changes should be taken once the appropriate legislation is enacted. An update on these measures shall be updated here. Contact Us if you require assistance in the preparation of the necessary reports. |
