Persons employed in the private sector, employed full-time or part-time, who after 27th March 2020, were ordered by the Superintendent of Public Health not to go to their workplace, are not to leave their home, are not able to work from home and are not being paid by their employer during their absence from work due to the impact of Covid-19, may apply for the Covid 19 – Medical Benefit which entitles them to:
- €166.15 per week for full-timers
- €103.85 per week for part-timers
- Social Security Contributions will be paid and the future contributory pension rights will be safeguarded
- Children’s Allowance (if entitled) may be adjusted up to the maximum rate of €24.08 per week per child
- In Work Benefit (If entitled) will remain unchanged
- Supplementary Allowance (if entitled) will have rate adjusted taking into consideration the new income earned and this may increase up to the maximum rate of €4.57 per week for single persons and €12.54 per week for couples

Eligibility – Employee must:
- Suffer from diabetes and is dependent on insulin
- Is on biological medicines
- Had cancer in previous six months
- Is immunosuppressed
- Is undergoing renal dialysis
- Is pregnant
- Was admitted to hospital for some respiratory disease over the previous six months
- Had a heart condition in the previous six months
- Is attending the heart failure clinic
- Is on oral steroids
